My Virtual Trip Around The World

Cooking has always been one of my favorite pastimes. However, for many years, my cooking skills were limited only to those dishes that I was used to eating on a regular basis. A few years ago I decided to expand my horizons and challenged myself to learn a new dish from around the world each week. I am proud to say that I completed that challenge and learned a lot along the way. Today, I have decided to start this blog as a way to not only honor my accomplishment, but to share with the rest of the world everything that I learned about international cuisine.

Three Unique Types Of Cheesecake To Try

by Sue Holmes

If you enjoy eating cheesecake, there's a good chance that you're fond of some conventional varieties. Many people enjoy different types of chocolate cheesecake, while cheesecake that features one or more kinds of fruit can also be popular. While there's nothing wrong with continuing to enjoy your favorite types of this dessert, you might wish to think about experimenting with some varieties that are a little more unique. Here are three other varieties that can satisfy your sweet tooth — and those of your family members or friends.

Candy Bar

If you enjoy a handful of different candy bars, consider a cheesecake that includes one of these bars as a primary ingredient. There are lots of cheesecakes that incorporate candy bars, both inside of the cake and on top. For example, if you enjoy a candy bar that has such ingredients as chocolate, nuts, and caramel, these flavors can be tasty to enjoy in your dessert. This type of dessert could have chunks of the candy bar inside, with slices of it positioned around the top of the cake — perhaps with some caramel drizzle and peanuts added to increase the richness.

Birthday Cake

Many people enjoy the distinct flavors of birthday cake, but these are flavors that you can also experience in the form of cheesecake. A birthday cake–inspired cheesecake can sometimes have multiple layers — combining conventional vanilla birthday cake with layers of cheesecake. You can also expect plenty of colorful sprinkles and birthday cake–style icing. This can be a suitable type of dessert to serve during the birthday party of someone who loves both styles of cake.

Carrot Cake

Carrot cake gets its distinct flavor not only from carrots but also from the use of cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. The use of cream cheese icing also helps to give carrot cake a rich and satisfying taste. These elements can also work well in a carrot cake cheesecake. One option is a variety that includes layers of carrot cake — much in the same manner as a birthday cake cheesecake. Another option is the inclusion of carrots and spices mixed with the cream cheese, which will give it a brownish hue with flecks of orange. Of course, this style of dessert will also have cream cheese icing atop it to further increase its rich flavor. If you like your carrot cake with nuts, consider adding nuts to the crust or sprinkling them on top of the cake.
